TschentenAlp, located in the Berner Oberland region of Switzerland, is a popular destination for paragliding enthusiasts. The site is known for its excellent cross-country (XC) flying opportunities and is accessible year-round, except during cable car maintenance in May and November.
The launch site at Schwandfeldspitz faces south and is easy to use, making it suitable for pilots of various skill levels. The altitude at the launch site is 2020 meters, and it can be reached via the Tschentenbahn cable car followed by a 15-minute walk westward. The area is known for its reliable thermals, even in winter, which makes it a favored spot among pilots.
The best time to start your flight in spring and summer is between 10:00 and 11:30 AM. Starting later can result in disrupted thermals due to valley winds. The site is also susceptible to west winds and Föhn conditions, so caution is advised.
For landing, there are two main options:
1. **Landing Zone Boden**: Preferred in spring and summer, especially for less experienced pilots. Be cautious not to step on the cross-country ski trails in winter.
2. **Landing Zone Oey**: A large meadow next to the cemetery, which can be challenging due to its slope, especially in valley wind conditions.
A landing card is required for Adelboden, costing CHF 5 per day or CHF 20 per year, available at the Tschentenbahn valley station.
Wildlife protection areas must be respected. From winter until mid-June, flights over Furggi are only allowed if you are above 2200 meters. The entire western flank of Lohner should be avoided during this period.
