Description

Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert Type: Ocean Water type: Shallow, Flat, Chop Water hazards: Corals, Bridge, Rocks, Shells Water quality: Cloudy Infos: Perfect flat water conditions in all winds. Shallow area. Choppy with Southeast winds. A south easterly is best ridden on a mid to high tide - at low tide it is too shallow. Some guys ride the channel when it is like this, but the launch is sketchy as it is just upwind of the pier - it is actually very rare to see kiters out at low tide on a SE - most just go elsewhere. Booties are nice to have as there is a mixture of sand, mud and coral/shells in the water. The water is filthy but does not smell too much. Sharp rocks/shells so you will need booties. Beach type & size: Sand - Small Infos: Sandy/rocky beach. Grass area, but the council does not like launching kites from it and does not allow it. You can launch on the sandbar. Identified hazards: Rocks Weather specificities: Board shorts temperature for the majority of the year. Wetsuit may be needed from June to early September. Season is all year round. Wind type: Thermal Wind specificities: Best direction is the sea breeze from Northeast. The only one which may cause problems is dead southerly where it becomes gusty. Best direction is Northeast where you ride parallel with the sand bar. Next best is Southeasterly. Best months: January, November, December Access description: by Car - South 40 minutes from Brisbane. North 40 minutes from Gold Coast. Wellington Point has a train station, 1 km from the beach. Specific rules: Zones Extra: You are not allowed to use any part of the grassed area to rig, launch or retrieve kites. You may use any part of the sand area below the 'High Tide Water Mark' (i.e. the sand spit area). Accommodations: Shower, Toilet, Food, Parking
