Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert Type: Ocean Water type: Chop, Small wave, Medium wave Water hazards: Swimmers Water quality: Crystal clear Infos: Chop inside the reef. Reef out about 600-800m. Fairly choppy, not too smooth. Water is very aqua blue. Could get out onto reef break opposite the ruins with the right conditions and surf waves with 5-6 feet waves out on the reef. In most places the reef is too shallow. Beach type & size: Sand - Medium Infos: The beach is one of the most beautiful of the Riviera Maya, nice and soft, white sand. Narrow beach with trees and fence close by. No rocks, shells, few peoples, no grass, no concrete, many different entry and exit points. Never too busy only during Semana Santa and Christmas. Identified hazards: Trees, Bystanders, Fence, Other Beachgoer: None Weather specificities: Water 26C, air 25-30C. In winter we use a short or long wetsuit, 1.5 or 3mm in colder northerlies. Wind type: Thermal, Frontal Wind specificities: Best wind in February and March. The wind mostly comes from North, East and South. The average wind speed in winter (November to April) is 17-25 knots and in the summer from 10-16 knots. The worst time is August to December. Perfect for downwind trips to Boca Paila until Punta Allen, with N, NE, E, and SE winds. And incredible ride in front of the Tulum Maya Ruins with E or SE. Best months: January, February, March, April, May, December Access description: by Car, Bus - From Cancun international airport 1:20 hrs by car. Specific rules: Zones Extra: No kiting in the beach next to the Mayan ruins. Kiters allowed after Cabanas Paraiso or south of the fisherman's boats. Kite leash required. You can ride upwind or downwind in front of the Mayan pyramids. Please kite off shore at least 50 mts, do not kite near swimmers. Nightlife: In the week end some nice party, but must of the time really quiet. If you are looking for a wild night, it is better go back to Playa del Carmen.
