Weather specificities: December and January air temperature was mid 80-mid 90sF. Water temperature warm - no wetsuit required. Basically, the South has two seasons: the wet (May to November, wettest from June to August) and the dry (December to April). The hottest and most humid time is from the end of February to May. The central coast is dry from May to October and wet from December to February. There is the possibility of typhoons between July and November, affecting the North and central areas.
Wind type: Trade
Wind specificities: Main wind November to April: sideonshore 20-45 knots. Wind is nearly daily above 20-25 knots some times up to 35-40 knots. Wind is usually North Eastern. During the rest of the year 10-15 knots some time up to 20 knots sideonshore Southeastern wind. It's in the open sea, so add a couple of knots to the general wind speeds of Mui Ne. I was there for 3 days with 3 days of 30 knots average! But there is no sea breeze effect like in Mui Ne.
Best months: January, February, March, April, November, December
Access description: by Boat - Take the road to Phan Thiet, then a 7 hour ferry ride from there to Phu Quy Island. Bring your passport! Once on the island get to the very south end. I would arrive early to get seat and make sure your luggage goes on and comes off when you get to island. Ferry usually goes at 8:00 am but takes time to load all the cargo so pretty full when the ferry is going to the island.
Specific rules: Zones
Extra: Keep the place clean. Bring your passport! Do not kite towards the north end of the bay. That's where the locals like to spearfish and they've warned us not to kite up there. Instead kite closer to the village.
Nightlife: Only karaoke with locals. If you can find them and most place seem to close down by 8:00 pm. Can be tricky to find places to eat after 8:00 pm.
Accommodations: Food
