Description

Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert Type: Ocean Water type: Flat, Chop, Small wave Water hazards: Swimmers, Currents, Ships Water quality: Crystal clear Infos: Although the water tends to be choppy it generally is fairly flat in the left side of the beach. As the beach is in the outside of an estuary, there are strong currents when the tide goes down or up so watch out for your board if you loose it. These currents create some good ramps for jumping. Normal the water state is choppy unless there has been a down pressure which generates good waves (0.5-1.5 m) for some days. Beach type & size: Sand - Medium Infos: About 900m long beach. Narrow to the East and 100m wide to the West side. Identified hazards: None Beachgoer: June, July, August Weather specificities: The water is cold so a wetsuit is needed the whole year. Wind type: Thermal, Frontal Wind specificities: This spot only works with North and Northeast winds which is 50% of the wind that generally blows in this part of Spain. This wind blows the whole year been stronger in spring and summer months with an average of 15-18 days per month. The normal strength of the wind is from 12-20 knots getting stronger sometimes reaching 30 knots. Normal kite size is 10-12 sqm for lightweight and 12-16 sqm for heavier people. The beach curves, making NE onshore to the West and N onshore to the Eastside of the beach. Best months: April, May, June, July, August Access description: by Car - Go to La Coruna and from there get all the way to Santa Cristina. This beach is located 2 minutes from La Coruna center. Small parking area. Specific rules: Zones, Time, Other Extra: Rules only in summer time because of swimmer. Kite and windsurfers have to share the beach, so respect towards other water users is a must. The rule is to kite downwind of the windsurfers and because of the council laws kite and windsurfing is not permitted closer than 100 meters of the beach. This is not a problem during cold season but in summer months (July and August) there is a separation with buoys which separates swimmers from water sports. Nightlife: If you like nightlife, this is the place to come every day and reaching it's best at the weekends. Special parties in summer time.
