Description
Level: Expert
Type: Ocean
Water type: Medium wave, Big wave
Water hazards: Rocks
Water quality: Clean
Infos: Medium to big waves.
Beach type & size: Sand - Medium
Infos: One of the few sand beaches on Gran Canaria. This black sandy beach is surrounded by cliffs. This is by no means a beach for beginners because if you drift downwind you will end up in some rocks and be in serious trouble because of the waves. Deep cove with high walls so wind very gusty on the beach. Make sure to enter at very left of the beach and make sure you are aware of the rocky outcrop at the right hand side of the beach. If you get washed downwind you are in serious trouble here.
Identified hazards: Stones
Weather specificities: Warmer air, around 25C all year. Winter a bit colder. 3 mm wetsuit all year needed, since the water is not warm enough.
Wind type: Trade
Wind specificities: Unfortunately this beach receives less wind than the rest of the island (at least in summer). I was told that it is best on easterly directions. Better sailed at low tide as wind is less gusty.
