Mit einer Höhe von 1.600 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel bietet Bica da Cana den höchsten regulären Startplatz von Madeira, der zudem ein spekatuläres Panorama auf die Vulkaninsel gewährt. Die Höhe des Startplatzes, die vielen Windräder und die dort herrschenden Winde sind jedoch nicht für Anfänger, sondern eher für erfahrenere Paraglider geeignet. Nach dem Aufzug und kurzem Spurt über die natürliche Rampe kann es losgehen. Über die Bergkuppen, dem Lorbeerwald und vorbei an grünen Tälern gleitest du in Richtung São Vicente an die Nordküste Madeiras. Ein Highlight des Fluges ist der Überflug über das Höhlensystem und das vulkanische Zentrum Madeiras. Einmal über der Ebene kannst du auf Strecke gehen und gleitest ruhig über Bachläufe Richtung Atlantik. Den krönenden Abschluss bildet der Soaring-Flug entlang der Nord-Steilküste. Gepackt wird der Schirm dann auch schon mal im Fußballstadion von São Vicente. Aber Vorsicht vor den Sprenkleranlagen, die manchmal angeschaltet werden! Höchster regulärer Startplatz von Madeira, spektakuläre Aussicht am Aussichtspunkt und grandioser Flug über die Loorbeerwälder Richtung Sao Vicente mit anschließendem kilometerlangen Soaringflug entlang der Nord-Steilküste zwischen Porto Moniz und Santana. Und das liegt in erster Linie an den ganzjährig guten Flugbedingungen. Eine Unterweisung durch die 'Locals' ist fast unverzichtbar. So kommt Ihr auch gleich in Kontakt mit den örtlichen 'Größen'... Vormittags Gleitflüge, ab Mittags Thermik oder Dynamik. Über der Falesia bei der Cantina el Mexicano lässt sich dann auch soaren. Die Strecke nach Funchal zum Sandstrand am Hafen ist genau so beliebt wie der Ausflug zum 'Cabo Girao', beides aber nur selten möglich. Wer nicht gut starten kann hilft zumindest die Kakteen einzudämmen ;-) Die Landeplätze sind recht klein und müssen wie eigentlich überall mit Gegenwind gelandet werden.
