Trentishoe, located in North Devon, UK, is a challenging paragliding site suitable for experienced pilots with over 100 hours of flight time. This coastal soaring and cross-country site requires perfect wind conditions and offers no bottom landing options. Newcomers should seek advice from local experienced pilots before attempting to fly here. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead at all times. **CANP Registration:** If you plan to fly at Trentishoe, register with CANP by calling 0800 515 544 or 01780 416001 before 8pm the evening prior. The Bristol Channel is frequently used by the RAF for low-flying sorties. **Access and Parking:** From the A39 at Blackmoor Gate, follow the A399 North West towards Combe Martin. After 2 miles, take the narrow lane signposted “Trentishoe & Hunters Inn.” Follow this road for 1 mile to Stoney Corner, then take a sharp right followed by a sharp left onto the road up to Trentishoe Downs. After 2 miles, you will see the Bristol Channel and a parking area on the left. If the main car park is full, there is an alternative parking area 1/2 mile down the road on the left. **Takeoff & Rigging Areas:** Trentishoe is a coastal cliff site with two takeoff areas, either below or above the road. Paraglider pilots typically launch just below the main car park. Follow the track down and to the left, crossing over the small wall. Launch anywhere below this point down to where the coastal path runs parallel with the hill. **Landing Options:** - **Top Landing:** Possible on top of Trentishoe Downs or to the east side where there is a clearing. If wind strength exceeds 10mph, consider side landing near the launch area. - **Side Landing:** Possible near and below the launch area. Avoid landing below the coastal path unless in an emergency. - **Bottom Landing:** There is NO BOTTOM LANDING at this site. Ensure you have judged the conditions properly. **XC Potential:** With a north wind, long coastal runs west to Combe Martin and east to Porlock are possible. Strong winter thermals offer opportunities to go over the back, but remember, there is no bottom landing. **Hazards:** - No bottom landing. - Rapid weather changes due to proximity to the Bristol Channel and Welsh mountains. - Potential wave conditions; always monitor the sky upwind. - Wind funneling down the channel can diminish lift quickly. - Proximity to a road near takeoff and landing areas; be cautious of traffic. - The hill behind Trentishoe drops into a valley quickly; assess wind speed carefully before launching. - The site is close to the North Devon Coastal Path, frequented by walkers. - Trentishoe Downs is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with sensitive areas, especially from mid-April to September due to warbler habitats.
