The Toblacher Pfannhorn is a rarely used paragliding site, but it offers a fantastic flying experience with a stunning panoramic view in all directions. On clear days, you can see the Sextner Dolomites, Ortler region, Stubai and Zillertal Alps, Venediger region, and Großglockner. The starting point is the hiking parking lot in the hamlet of Kandellen in the Silvestertal, located about 20-25 minutes north of Toblach in the South Tyrolean Pustertal at 1600 meters above sea level. From here, follow an asphalt path north into the Golfental. After about 15 minutes, you will cross the Golfenbach via a bridge and reach a fork. Both paths lead to the Bonner Hütte, the only support point on this tour. It is recommended to take the right, shorter path. Following the signs for 'Bonner Hütte' or 'Pfannhorn,' you will reach the Bonner Hütte after about 1.5 to 1.75 hours. The Bonner Hütte, revived in 2007, offers a particularly beautiful view. From the hut, it is not far to the summit, with about 300 meters of elevation remaining, which takes about 45 to 60 minutes. Although the Pfannhorn is not particularly beautiful, it offers a grand view in all directions and a good launch site for southern winds. If there is some snow at the summit, a launch in a northwesterly direction is also possible. Landing options are on agricultural fields next to the hiking parking lot in Kandellen or near Toblach. The direct distance from the summit to Toblach is about 7.5 kilometers with an elevation difference of about 1400 meters, so it should be possible to reach Toblach without thermal lift. Access is via Bruneck from the west or Silian from the east. The ascent is from Kandellen into the Golfental and further via the Bonner Hütte to the summit. The elevation difference is 1050 meters, and the hiking time is 2 to 2.5 hours. The Bonner Hütte is at 2340 meters above sea level. The launch site is simple and located directly at the summit, with the main launch direction being SSW, and WNW if there is snow.
