Coordinates: Grid SX 438 515 Site ID: 866 Site Code: 02.114 Site Officer: John Owen-Jones **Suitability:** - Hang Glider: Experienced pilots only - Paraglider: Suitable for pilots **Dimensions:** The site spans 200 meters by 2 miles from Cawsand to Picklecombe Point. **Take Off:** Walk across the field to the slope, but not too far forward to clear the hedge in front of take-off. Face the Great Mewstone and aim to clear the hedge between the two small tree clumps. Maintain speed to get through any rotor from the hedge. **Top Landing:** Usually in the field behind the launch or across the road in the field belonging to Maker Camp. Be cautious of wire fences. A better landing spot is further back in the 400ft contour area if it is not in crop. **Bottom Landing:** - Hang Gliders: None - Paragliders: Possible crosswind landing in the long field at the bottom of the cliff, running from below launch towards Kingsand. The field slopes towards the sea, so check it out before flying. **Hazards:** - No bottom landing for hang gliders. - Beware of being sucked into the gulley immediately to the right (west) of launch. **Local Flying:** Directions: Cross the Torpoint ferry from Plymouth and join the A374 for 2 miles. Turn left to St John, continue past Millbrook on the B3247, and turn off for Kingsand. Go down the hill for half a mile, then at the junction above the village, turn left up a steep narrow hill. The road levels out at the top, and some old pillboxes and defenses can be seen overlooking the sea. The hang gliding take-off area is from a field further on, belonging to Mr. Martin of Home Farm, Mount Edgcumbe, just past a footpath on the right.
