This site in Devon, UK, offers a good soaring experience with the right wind conditions. It's not suitable for low airtime pilots due to the rocky terrain. The site has excellent cross-country potential, but it's crucial to read the safety warnings if you plan to cross Dartmoor. The site record is 50.3 km, and it is a North Westerly site. The grid reference is SX 546 896, and the site code is 02.081. The site officer is John Owen-Jones. The dimensions of the site are 600 meters to the church, but only the top 200 meters by 800 meters are usable. Thermals from this site can allow a flight back to Corn Ridge. For rigging, the site is good. Take off from the higher point in light winds, as the lower take-off area is less rocky. Top landing needs to be well back to avoid rotor from the large rocks. Bottom landing should be done crosswind in an area clear of bracken beside the wall, or back to Prewley car park. Be cautious of power lines near the treatment works, as they have been hit before. The site is good for local flying in the correct wind strengths but is not a place for scratching. For XC flying, the potential is excellent, but again, read the safety warnings if crossing Dartmoor. Directions: From the A30, leave at Sourton services Interchange and take the A386 Tavistock road. The Prewley water treatment works access is 300 meters south of the slip road, the second on the left. The walk to the site is approximately 1 mile. Parking is available at the entrance to the water treatment works. Do not block this entrance road or the farmers' access to the moor.
