Located at an altitude of 2185 meters, this paragliding site offers an easy to medium difficulty level. It is rarely used, making it a hidden gem for those looking for a quieter experience. The site is suitable for walk & fly, soaring, and some cross-country (XC) flying. It serves as an XC reference point. The launch area is a fairly steep meadow situated west of the summit. The hike to the launch site takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Ritombahn. Landing: The Ambri airfield is NOT a designated landing area; maintain a distance of 5 km. Recommended landing spots are in Faido or Airolo. To reach the site, take the funicular railway from Ambri-Piotta, which was recently the steepest in Europe. This will take you up to Lake Ritom. From there, follow the well-marked trail towards Föisc, which takes about 15-45 minutes. Difficulty: The launch sites are steep, and terrain-induced rotors can be challenging. Depending on the weather, strong valley winds may also be present. This is a little-known alpine flying area in northern Ticino, near the southern exit of the Gotthard road tunnel, offering stunning views and expansive landscapes. The area is wild and rugged, perfect for alpine soaring and thermal flying. The funicular railway quickly takes you to over 1800 meters, and the valley wind, which is reliable both in summer and winter, does the rest. In Ticino, you can also discover culinary delights and shady grottos. The excellent mountain cheese is a highlight. However, be cautious of both north and south Föhn winds, as they can be detrimental to your health.
