This paragliding site offers a beautiful panorama and is regularly used, with cross-country flights possible. The launch area is a grassy field, suitable for training, and guest pilots are welcome. However, in winter, heavy ski traffic can be an issue. Located in Austria, this site has a flight record of 61.0 km. The paragliding school Aufwind conducts high-altitude training here. Access to the launch sites is via the Planai cable car (Tel: 03687 / 220420). There are launch sites at both the mid and top stations. The landing area is a large meadow east of Schladming. Be cautious of strong east winds, as they can make it difficult to reach the landing zone. You can reach the site by the Planai cable car or by car via a toll road. For more information, contact the paragliding school at http://www.aufwind.at. The site is suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders and is an approved training area. The east launch site is directly next to the cable car, below the Schladminger Hütte, while the north launch site is 50 meters higher, above the Schladminger Hütte. Both launch sites are grassy fields. In winter, you may need to launch higher up, directly below the former top station (small hut) due to skiers. For the north launch site, avoid launching in strong northwest winds due to rotor effects in the narrow corridor. Do not launch from any site in southwest or south winds; if in doubt, check the wind at the summit. Longer cross-country flights to the west towards Hochwurzen, Reiteralm, Dachstein, or Ramsau are possible. Typically, pilots circle the top station to the east and glide over the Ennstal.
