The launch site at 2050 meters in the Orjiva region of Spain is occasionally used. The ascent is long, and the lower takeoff at 1700 meters is usually sufficient if conditions are favorable. The site record is 45.5 km. For hang gliders, this site is only suitable in stronger winds and requires a 4x4 vehicle to access. A special permit is needed to use this launch site. Large triangular flights and significant altitude gains are common here. There are two launch sites: one for hang gliders and one for paragliders, which is 50 meters higher. Both face west. There is an intermediate landing spot for paragliders on the way up to the launch site. The main landing area for both hang gliders and paragliders is after the bridge, to the right towards Orjiva. Note the considerable distance from the launch site to the landing area, and be aware of strong valley winds in the afternoon. The altitude difference is 1200 meters. Flights here can cover incredible distances. The 'transit routes' run along the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Enjoy the snow-capped peaks of the Andalusian desert and consider setting up camp for a while. Do not fly away from the mountain at low altitude. The flight to the landing area is long with no landing options and can encounter strong valley winds. With sufficient launch altitude, it should be manageable. Do not land in the fields near the bridge where it heads south to Orjiva, or below the launch site, as this can cause issues with landowners. About 2 km after 'Parking Alpujarra,' turn left after a sharp left curve. Follow the gravel road through a small forest, turn right, and continue up the switchbacks. After a few kilometers, there is a small parking area on the right side of the road. The paraglider launch site is above the road, and the hang glider launch site is below the road.
