Baška, Croatia offers a medium-altitude paragliding experience at 256 meters, primarily suited for coastal soaring with some thermal activity. The site is regularly used and provides a nice, easy flying experience. There are multiple takeoff options, and toplanding is possible. This site is exclusively for paragliding and requires a 45-minute walk to reach the takeoff point, which can be steep and fenced. Flying is recommended only in calm north or northeast winds. The region is known for its scenic flights, often accompanied by Griffon Vultures, which are excellent indicators of thermal activity. The views from the air include the entire island of Krk and neighboring islands such as Prvić, St. Gregory, Rab, Pag, and Cres. Achieved heights can reach up to 2500 meters above sea level, allowing for extensive cross-country flying. The terrain consists of two mountain ridges, Hlam (461m) and Veliki Hlam (482m), which surround the valley. The southern ridge is used for flying in northern winds, while the northern ridge is used for westerly winds. The valley is thermally active, especially with a good thermal gradient in northern wind conditions. For north wind (Burin) flights, the takeoff is accessible via a trail from the base of the ridge, taking about 45 minutes to walk. The takeoff area is marked by green grass maintained by local sheep. Ideal wind conditions are between 5 m/s to 6 m/s. Landing options include various meadows in the valley and the beach, though the beach should be avoided during the summer due to the number of bathers. For south wind (Maestral) flights, access is by car to the local cemetery or St. John's Church, followed by a 45-minute walk through a pine forest. The takeoff area is on a gentle slope, suitable for two wings. It is recommended to launch only with a headwind due to the rocky terrain. This takeoff is not suitable for beginners.
