Kommetjie, South Africa Height: 82 meters This site is regularly used and offers good soaring conditions with some potential for cross-country (XC) flights. However, be cautious of muggers in the area. Region: Kommetjie, South Africa Site Record: 29.9 km Kommetjie is an interesting site to fly, though it is somewhat limited unless you can make the jump to Misty Cliffs. The site features an isolated ridge on the Atlantic Coast, ensuring it is usually uncrowded. Cautions: Be aware of telephone lines on landing, located beside the tar road below. Directions: - Take the M5 towards Muizenberg. - Turn right and go up Ou Kaapse Weg. - At the big four-way intersection in Fish Hoek, turn right, following signs for 'Kommetjie'. - Before reaching Kommetjie, take the left turn towards 'Scarborough / Misty Cliffs / Cape Point'. - Take the next major right turn and park before you crest the little pass. Caretaker: Hang Gliding (HG) contact - Eric Fulton (083 231 4391) Permission: None needed, as the land apparently falls outside of the Cape Peninsula National Park (CPNP).
