The site at Kettlewell is suitable for experienced pilots only due to its potential turbulence in anything other than light winds. The wind direction should be between ENE and E (060-100). The site is located at coordinates 54.136182, -2.051237 with an OS Grid Reference of SD967711. The altitude is 1300ft (405m) AMSL, with a top-to-bottom height of 600ft (200m). Parking is limited near the path that meets the road or in the layby opposite. Ensure not to block the gate or cause any obstruction. Alternatively, you can park in Kettlewell village. Access to the takeoff point involves walking along a public footpath through a wooded area, continuing through a disused quarry, and over a stile onto the fell. Follow the path for another 200m, then bear right to reach the takeoff area. The site can accommodate three pilots in good conditions, but only one if conditions are scratchy. Be aware of hazards such as rotor behind the crags, the wooded area in front of takeoff, buildings, and the road near the bottom landing field. The site can be very turbulent, with many obstacles affecting airflow. In strong winds, the conditions can be very unpleasant. Rules for the site include not blocking the track and keeping the gate closed. The bottom landing field is some distance from the takeoff, so always ensure you can make the landing field on a straight glide. If lift disappears, land on the flat area in front of the takeoff.
