The main launch site at Hochkar, located at an altitude of 1750 meters with a height difference of 1060 meters, is a popular spot for both hang gliding and paragliding. This site offers excellent cross-country flying opportunities and is thermally active year-round. In the summer, it is accessible via the Hochkar Alpine Road. At the base station of the Hochkar four-seater chairlift, near the Geischlägerhaus, pilots are required to sign in before their flight. There is a start/landing fee of €3. Cross-country flights are possible towards Hochschwab, Xeis, or Ötscher. The longest recorded flight reportedly reached Zell am See, and flights to Hohe Wand have also been achieved. On good days, the cloud base can exceed 3000 meters. Flying at Hochkar is possible both in summer and winter. The west/north launch can be used year-round by paragliding enthusiasts. The launch site is approximately 200 meters from the Draxlerloch double chairlift mountain station or about 350 meters from the Hochkar four-seater chairlift mountain station and the Geischlägerhaus. Hang glider pilots can also take off directly from the Geischlägerhaus towards the south in winter. However, the launch slope there is very steep and not suitable for paragliders when covered in snow. The official landing site is near the toll station at the base of Hochkar. Pilots traveling alone may face challenges getting back to the lift base station after landing. Landing near the lift base stations or parking areas at the upper end of the Hochkar Alpine Road is difficult and likely prohibited.
