A scenic and remote spot in Wales, this paragliding site is regularly used for hike & fly, nice soaring, and XC flights. It is a very sensitive area, so make sure to contact the South West Wales Soaring Club before planning your visit. The mountain faces W/SW, but many pilots take off from the N-NE side. There are infinite takeoff options, ranging from high, thermic XC starting points on nil-wind days to late evening wave flying and waga. The site is located in the Brecon region of the UK, with a site record of 43.6 km. Takeoff: There is plenty of room on top of the hill for takeoff. Landing: Bottom landing is possible at the bottom of the bowl and below the SW takeoff. Be cautious of the gully when landing by the layby. Getting There: From M4 Junction 45, drive up Swansea Valley on A4067 past Dan Yr Ogof and over the pass. Descend until the Cray Reservoir is on the left. Park in the layby on the right next to the disused bridge. Comments: This is a very friendly site with a wonderful top-to-bottom (TTB) flight and excellent XC potential in all directions. Weather Hazards: Be aware of curl over and rotor behind the bowl. Rocks behind the SW takeoff have caused injuries. Use the military freephone during the week. Flight Regulation: Contact a committee member for the key to the track, or walk up. The site is closed from April 15 to May 10 each year.
