At an elevation of 1709 meters with a height difference of 920 meters, this site in Austria is regularly used for paragliding, both in winter and summer. In winter, you can access the launch site via a lift, while in summer, it’s a walk-and-fly experience. The site offers opportunities for soaring and cross-country flights. The site record is an impressive 94.2 km. During winter, you can take a two-seater chairlift from the base station in Aflenz to Bürgeralm. From there, it’s a 10-minute walk to the three-seater chairlift that takes you to Schönleitenspitze. From Schönleitenspitze, it’s another 10-minute walk along the ski slope towards the southwest to reach the launch site. Bürgeralm is one of the most impressive flying areas in the region. The launch site offers a magnificent view, and on clear days, you can often see as far as Schöckl and beyond. Behind the launch site, the imposing Hochschwab massif with its rugged cliffs provides a dramatic backdrop. Due to the lift operating only during the winter season, accessing Bürgeralm in summer requires more effort. However, the mountain has excellent potential for cross-country flights. Even in winter, despite the snow cover, Bürgeralm offers good thermals, making it a worthwhile destination.
