    Addleborough is a rarely used paragliding site in the UK, with an approximate height of 460 meters. It offers three takeoff options, with the southwest one being highlighted here. The site is rated as less popular among paragliders. Site Status: Green Important Notices: No flying is allowed during September, October, and November unless prior approval is obtained by contacting John Ellerby at 01642 724739. Site Reference: - Wind Direction: NE-E (040-100), N (340-020), SW (200-260) - Coordinates: 54.2860, -2.0792 - OS Grid: SD 948 880 - Height: 470m AMSL, 50m top to bottom Grade of Flyer: - NE - E: Suitable for all grades - N & SW: Suitable for experienced flyers Parking: From the sharp bend in the A684 at Bainbridge, take the minor road heading south. Fork left at the radio mast and drive almost to Carpley Green. Park just before the barn on the left, ensuring you do not block the gate. Access: Enter the field signed BW Thornton Rust and follow the path with the wall on your right. After about 150 meters, the wall bends right and takes you through a gate. Leave the path and walk directly up the hill, keeping the wall on your left. Look for the purpose-built stile to access the E/NE face. Access to the N face is via another stile. Do not climb any walls. Capacity: The E/NE face can accommodate about 2 paragliders, while the N face can accommodate more. Hazards: The N and SW faces have rocky outcrops with sharp edges, so beware of rotor. The enclosure marked 'Hukermire Moss' is used for cutting peat and can be very boggy. Rules: Do not climb any walls. If you bottom land to the E, do not walk S to join the public footpath, as this will force you to climb at least one wall. Walk back to the top and cross the stile. Bottom landings should be on the fell, not in the enclosures to the SW. There is no route from the NW bottom landing field back to the top, so it is better to land to the E of the wall where you can walk up the footpath. Avoid startling livestock near the sheer face. Other Comments: This isolated hill was used as a paraglider training slope for many years. The E/NE faces are soarable and have XC potential. The N face is often out of wind due to the W-E orientation of Wensleydale. In a SW wind, it may be better to drive to Staggs Fell or Nappa Scar. The east face is suitable for newly qualified CPs, and the north face is one of only three in the Dales.
