Located in the Präbichl region of Austria, the Polster launch site offers a variety of paragliding experiences. The take-off altitude is 1810 meters, with a height difference of approximately 600 meters. This site is regularly used, especially for west wind conditions, which are relatively common. Soaring with a thermal component is possible, and some cross-country (XC) flying can be achieved. The Polster site is situated in the Eisenerzer Alps. The best thermal entry point is at Niederpolster, with potential routes extending towards Pfaffenstein (NW), Rössel (SW), and Leobner Mauer (E). The eastern side features mostly forested mountains, while the western side is characterized by rugged alpine terrain, resulting in varying thermal conditions from gentle to strong. Take-off points: - Polster - Dreieck: Facing southeast and south, with a medium difficulty level. The launch area is a steep, narrowing meadow. - West Start: Facing southwest and west, with a medium difficulty level. There are two west-facing launch sites depending on the wind. - North Start: Facing north and northeast, with an easy difficulty level. This site offers breathtaking mountain scenery for north wind soaring. The main landing zone is at the Präbichl Pass near the Soaring Clubhouse. It is narrow but long, making it relatively easy to land as the wind typically comes from only two directions. However, be cautious of the venturi effect between Rössel and Polster in stronger winds. A notable experience is the 'Hausstrecke,' a top landing at the Reichensteinhütte (2166 meters). This is a straightforward exercise in west wind conditions with light thermals. Nearby, there is an adapted bathing pond since 2002, which is the largest artificial snowmaking pond in Austria. It also hosts the Präbichl diving school, offering a refreshing break after a long flight. For walk and fly enthusiasts, there is a tour to the Eisenerzer Donnersalm.
