Start and landing fees are to be paid at the Blue Sky Flight School in Sillian, which is almost daily present in Obertilliach during the summer. The launch site, Scheibe, is located in the Tirol/Osttirol region and can be accessed via cable car, car, or toll road. It is suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders and is an approved training area. From the mountain station, it’s a 5-minute walk southwards parallel to the cable car. The launch site is a picturesque alpine meadow. If driving, park your car on the access road and do not drive directly to the launch site. When flying, avoid going too far left into the side valley. The thermal trigger point is well before the launch site. Take off, fly straight, and you’ll quickly gain altitude. The area offers excellent cross-country opportunities without being overcrowded. Close to Sillian and the Emberger Alm, this weather-protected region provides great conditions and tranquility. The chairlift takes you to the mountain in about 20 minutes. If you struggle to get away from the Helm, try crossing the valley to reach it quickly, from where you can fly to the 3 Zinnen. The two launch sites allow flights in all directions with gentle winds. You can explore the Drau, Puster, and Graital valleys. The valley near the Lienzer Dolomites is optimal for flying from March to September. Mornings are usually calm and ideal for beginners, while the valley wind picks up around noon, sometimes blowing strongly from the east or south. The large landing meadow is hard to miss, and there are plenty of alternative landing spots if needed. Avoid flying in strong northerly winds.
