The paragliding site in Elm, Switzerland, offers an elevation range of 1900-2050 meters and is considered easy to navigate. It is occasionally used for walk & fly and some cross-country flying. From there, follow the ski lift on foot to the take-off site, which is a moderately steep, slightly hilly meadow near the summit. In light wind conditions, you can start towards the southwest (towards the lift cables). The cable car staff strongly discourage starting outside the designated area on the piste during winter. Elm is known as a ski resort and for the Martinsloch, a hole in the surrounding mountains through which the sun shines on the village church at the beginning of spring and autumn. Elm is located in the Sernftal valley, surrounded by mountains such as Piz Sardona, Hausstock, Vorab, and Kärpf. The 'Schabell' above Elm is a decent paragliding peak. It is somewhat easier to reach in winter than in summer, as the cable car goes almost to the summit. **Flight Conditions:** The Schabell area offers ideal take-off sites in both summer and winter, accessible by gondola and ski lift. The good thermals over Empächli provide long, though not far, flights. **Difficulty:** Be cautious of cables during landing. Unfortunately, a few pilots collide with them each year. The height above the ground is particularly dangerous, as falling from 10 meters can be severe. Local pilots are happy to offer tips. There is also a cable on the other side of the landing site, which is slightly higher up on the other side of the road and ends in the forest opposite the landing site. If it's your first time flying here or if you feel uncertain, listening to the information bands from local flight schools (Flyy, Robair) can be helpful. These schools sometimes train in Ems.
