The takeoff area is managed by the Sensation’Ailes Parapente Club de Coo, which ensures environmental respect and site cleanliness. Visitors are requested to: - Avoid littering. - Not damage fences and close the landing gate. - Refrain from lighting fires or smoking at the takeoff area. - Not cut trees. - Park in Coo and use carpooling or the chairlift to reach the site. - Avoid parking in the guesthouse parking lot on the Ster plateau; use the official parking instead. - Not park in meadows or block access to them. - Drive slowly in the village of Ster due to the presence of children. - Allow passage for agricultural vehicles. - Not block the road leading to the landing area and turn around in the designated area. - Patronize the "Val de la Cascade" restaurant to thank the landowner. **Airspace Considerations:** When flying from the south site, you may need to navigate around the Spa - La Sauvenière aerodrome, which has airplane, helicopter, and parachute drop activities. Avoid this area to maintain good relations, even though it's not legally required. Further northeast, you'll encounter TRA 28 B and TRA 28 A zones, and the restricted area EBR04. Be mindful of the airspaces of Düren and Düsseldorf airports and their associated CTR and TMA zones. To the north-northwest or north, avoid the TMA of Liège Bierset and the airspaces of Maastricht and Geilenkirchen airports. The takeoff areas are within LFA 02 and HTA 02 zones, where military jets, transport planes, and helicopters may operate at low altitudes during specific dates (check NOTAMs). **South Takeoff:** - Orientation: South to South-Southwest - Height Difference: 245 meters - Altitude: Approximately 480 meters - Description: A 30-meter wide and 100-meter long clearing in the forest, oriented directly south. Wind can be funneled even if not coming directly from the south, especially from the southeast. Check wind conditions via the PiouPiou weather station or cloud movement and avoid takeoff if conditions are turbulent. **Landing Areas:** Coo has three official landing zones: West, South (new since November 2017), and a large landing area at the summit, with an additional tolerated rest area at the summit. **West Landing:** There is an agreement with a helicopter tour company. When the helicopter is active, land at the far end of the landing zone, past the yellow line. **South Landing:** Two important rules: 1. If a red flag is raised on the second mast, landing is prohibited. This occurs a few times a year, such as during hay season. Use the West or summit landing zones instead. 2. Do not land in the large field just before the South landing zone. For safety reasons, emergency landing zones in orange can be used, but landing elsewhere is currently prohibited. **Dangers:** - Strong winds and southeast winds at the South takeoff. - Venturi effect to the left of the takeoff. - Distance between the takeoff and the West landing zone if the South landing zone is unusable. Avoid landing in the village or on the road. - High-voltage railway line, electrical line along the road near the landing zone, and the river about 100 meters from the waterfall. - Other pilots on busy days.
