Located in Belgium, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of 255 meters and a height difference of 95 meters. It is regularly used for soaring and cross-country flights, making it one of the few decent sites in Belgium for these activities. The site record is an impressive 407.2 km. The site is managed by the Belgian Free Flight Federation (FBVL), which owns the takeoff area and has secured permissions for the landing zones. To support the FBVL and ensure the continued availability of this site, consider becoming a member. Usage: Hang gliding and non-motorized paragliding are permitted. The site is open year-round except during hunting dates (check www.fbvl.be or signs at the entrance of the woods). Flight Types: Soaring and thermal flights are possible, serving as a starting point for cross-country flights. Regulations: 1. Pilots must hold a paragliding/hang gliding license and have cross-country experience. 2. Membership in the FBVL or a foreign federation with valid insurance (Civil Liability) is required. 3. An access card is mandatory. To obtain the access card, send an email to beauraing@fbvl.be with your name, phone number, and FBVL membership number. If you are a member of a foreign federation, include a PDF copy of your license. Landing: - Primary landing is towards Pondrôme, near the chapel behind the site. - If landing at Pondrôme is not possible, two official landing fields outside Martouzin are available: - West landing field (glide ratio 9): Do not turn left over the railway after takeoff. - East landing field (glide ratio 15): Located after Neuville. - Emergency landing at the foot of the takeoff should only be used if absolutely necessary. The flight plan must be strictly followed, and there is a NO FLYING ZONE to be aware of. Return to the site on foot only. Shuttle services, retrieval, and parking in the village center of Martouzin are prohibited. Respect the tranquility of the area; no shouting is allowed on the ridge or above the village. Parking: Park behind the takeoff area, either on the road to the Pondrôme cemetery, along the dirt road by the woods, or in designated spots at the beginning of the path into the woods. Do not park further into the woods. Leave a minimum 4-meter-wide passage for emergency services and agricultural machinery. Parking at the foot of the site or in the villages of Martouzin-Neuville is strictly forbidden. In Flight: Adhere to priority rules (paragliders yield to hang gliders) and maintain appropriate distances from the slope and other pilots based on flight conditions. Avoid hovering in place and allow others to circle in thermals. Respect the peace of the forest and local residents; do not shout. Return to Takeoff: Walk along the road at the foot of the site towards the east until you reach the path that ascends directly to the takeoff. Do not use the first private path that ascends perpendicularly from the road, as it leads nowhere. Alternatively, use the path passing by the station to reach the parking area between the chapel and the cemetery. Airspace: The site is 75 meters below HTA04 (Helicopter Training Area) and LFA04 (Low Flying Area). The latter may be used by low-flying military aircraft during weekdays from September 1 to May 31. Check NOTAMs on the Belgocontrol website. On weekdays, visual flight in Belgium is generally limited to 1370 meters above sea level (4500 ft AMSL). Takeoff: A right turn (eastward) is mandatory during takeoff due to potential turbulence. An incident over the power line could have catastrophic consequences for both the pilot and the site.
