This paragliding site in Dorset, UK, offers a take-off height of 250 meters and is regularly used by pilots. The site is suitable for thermal soaring and cross-country (XC) flights. Top landing is possible, and the site record is 48.4 km. Flying is prohibited on shooting days, which are usually Wednesdays from October to February. After 7 miles, turn left to Batcombe and Minterne Magna. Continue for a couple of miles past two left turnings for Batcombe and the Hilfield Nature parking. After 1/4 mile, you'll see a large grassed/mud lay-by on the left with two gates. If conditions are dry, enter the gate on the right and park inside on the right, ensuring not to block the gates. Walk across the field along the ridge to the take-off area west of a barbed wire fence. From the South: Take the A37 north from Dorchester to Yeovil. After about 7 miles, turn right for Batcombe and Minterne Magna, just after passing the white 'golf ball' water tower and the Southern Counties Clay Shooting park. **Guidelines:** Take-off is between the trees. Be cautious of rotor from the trees if the wind is off to the North. Avoid flying too close to the ridge during the pheasant rearing season (Feb-Apr). **Hang Gliding (HG) Take-off:** Ensure you are comfortable with the width of the take-off area. Large high aspect ratio HGs may find limited room on either side. **HG Top Landing:** Top landing is possible anywhere in the take-off field, but be cautious of wind gradient, shear, and rotor behind the trees. The large field behind is an alternative, provided it is not in crop. **Paragliding (PG) Top Landing:** Top landing is possible behind the take-off or anywhere in the same field. **PG Side-Slope Landing:** Side-slope landing is tricky but possible for experienced pilots immediately in front of the take-off. Watch out for pilots trying to launch. **Bottom Landing:** Any of the fields in front of the take-off can be used for bottom landing. HG pilots should be aware that these fields slope slightly down towards the lane (into the wind). **XC Potential:** The site has excellent XC potential. Pilots have flown to Salisbury, Swanage, and Kimmeridge. Avoid landing in the Minterne Estate and be aware of the Firing Range at Lulworth, Bovington Danger Area D015, and Bournemouth ATZ. **Hazards:** Be cautious of rotor behind the trees and avoid flying too close to the trees in light winds. Cars obstructing farming activities may suffer inadvertent damage. **Shooting Dates:** No flying is allowed on shooting days, generally Wednesdays during the season from October to February.
