The best access is on foot from Alexanderschanze via the forest path to the launch site. The landing area is not straightforward and should be inspected beforehand. Pilots must hold an A-license and receive prior briefing from a club member. The launch site is approximately 920 meters above sea level. Only launch with sufficient wind from SW to NW; there is a risk with north winds. Thermal sources are along the entire ridge and in front of the Hotel Dollenberg. Access to the launch site is only on foot, either from the parking lot at the wind turbine Alexanderschanze (about 20 minutes along the Westweg) or from the parking lot below the launch site on the main road (about 20 minutes uphill). Club members are allowed to drive up to the parking bay via the middle path (Heideweg), from where it is a 5-minute walk to the launch site. Parking at the launch site is prohibited. From the landing site to the launch site, it takes about 50 minutes on foot at a brisk pace. A day pass (launch fee) is mandatory and costs 3 Euros, available from a club member if present. If no one is available, please pay the next time you visit. The landing site is in the "Wilden Rench" (560 meters above sea level) extending from the northwest launch site. It is located above the Subaru dealership on the northwest slope of Dollenberg. Landing outside the designated area is difficult and should be avoided. The landing site is usually approached with a right-hand landing pattern; if necessary, descend along the north side of the landing site and then fly into the landing field, considering the slope. If multiple pilots are landing, ensure to follow right-of-way and spacing rules to avoid congestion. Pack your gliders near the windsock and not in the tall grass. Do not drive onto the landing site; parking is available at the old sawmill near the bridge. Hazards include launching only with sufficient wind and pressure in the canopy. Lee turbulence and dangers with north winds (indicated by the position of the wind turbine at Alexanderschanze) are present. Turbulence can also occur with south winds. In strong winds, reaching the landing site can be problematic. Flying too far southeast or north risks not reaching the landing site if lift is insufficient. There are no intermediate landing options. In strong thermal conditions, especially in spring, expect turbulence at the landing site. Inexperienced pilots should limit flights to calmer morning and evening hours on such days. First aid supplies are available in a cabinet on the left side of the SW launch site near the information board. The combination lock code is the club frequency. Club radio frequency: 434.0125 MHz. The launch site is on the edge of a bird protection area (NATURA 2000). Therefore, the following restrictions apply: Do not fly lower than 300 meters above ground behind the launch area (eastward). Launches are only allowed on designated areas. Access to the launch site is exclusively on foot, and cars must be parked in designated areas.
