Paragliding Turimetta

Turimetta is a challenging intermediate paragliding site located on Narrabeen Park Parade in New South Wales, Australia. The site features a mixture of coastal cliffs and steeply sloping faces with many knolls, making it a complex area to navigate. The cliffs and slopes change direction frequently, creating compression and rotor in various places depending on wind direction and strength. Takeoff is from a small grassy park, with most pilots heading along the cliff to the right of the launch. It's crucial to avoid getting too close behind the knoll due to significant rotor. Landing is typically on the beach in front of the launch area. While top landing is possible, it requires precise flying. Pilots must avoid flying over the road. The lower level airspace is at 2500 feet. The site demands careful attention to changing conditions, as areas that were safe can quickly become affected by rotor. When the wind increases, there is significant compression on the launch, and pilots must be cautious not to be blown over the road. If in doubt, it's safer to land on the beach. When the wind shifts to the east or southeast, the launch area experiences rotor, making canopy inflation difficult. The location is accessible by turning onto Ocean St from the south, crossing Narrabeen lagoon, and then turning right at the next roundabout onto Narrabeen Park Parade.
