Crimea МАНГУП-КАЛЕ Mangup-Kale

Mangup, located near the villages of Zalesnoye and Hadzhi-Sala in Crimea, Ukraine, is an occasionally used paragliding site. The site is known for its historical significance as the former capital of the medieval principality Theodoro and is the largest of all Crimean cave cities. The area is incredibly scenic, nestled in the mountainous region of Crimea and protected from both southern and northern winds. Mangup is situated on the Baba-Dag plateau, which resembles a hand with four fingers. The city was historically located on the two right-hand "fingers," while the left-hand ones were used for pastures and artisan shops. The fortress was highly impregnable due to its strategic location, surrounded by cliffs and accessible only through three protected approaches. Coordinates: UTM UPS 36T 563975B 4937722C Wind Direction: South, with a preference for calm wind conditions. Height: 530 meters, with the rock height at 560 meters. The site offers moderate difficulty for takeoffs and flights. The flying conditions are generally thermal with weak lift. The landing area is comfortable and within sight, located 500 meters from the takeoff point with a height difference of 200 meters. However, be cautious of the potential for a strong west breeze in the afternoon, which can create turbulence. 14-Stanciya 14-я станция Фонтанской дороги

The site at the 14th station along the Fontanskaya Road in Odessa is occasionally used for soaring flights. The slopes, with a gradient of no more than 50 degrees, stretch along the coastline from the 8th station to the border post at Cape Bolshoy Fontan, covering approximately 5 km. These slopes are interrupted in several places and reach a maximum height of about 60 meters. The launch point at the 14th station is situated at the highest point of the slope. When the wind is a steady east at more than 6 m/s, it is possible to fly over all the mentioned slopes. If the wind is weaker or not directly from the east, only a smaller section of the slope with several 'bowls' works. Flights here are very scenic, especially in summer when there are many beachgoers below. After landing on the beach, you can immediately take a swim. On clear days, the aerial view offers a panorama of almost the entire city of Odessa. However, caution is essential as there is no safe area to be blown back to—behind you lies the city. A piloting error in weak wind conditions could result in landing in the trees that grow right in front of the slope. Therefore, flights here require heightened vigilance. Rost, the author of the slope descriptions, considers this the best flying site around Odessa, despite the infrequency of suitable east winds. Sereninova Севериновка

Located 2 km from the village of Severinovka and 70 km north of Odessa along the old Kiev highway, this site features a gentle slope 80 meters high above the dried Kuyalnytskyi estuary valley. The slope extends for 150 meters and is suitable for winds from the northwest and west. The ideal wind speed ranges from 3 to 8 m/s. The launch area at the top is excellent, though sharp rocks protruding from the ground can be a drawback. On days with strong thermal activity, good thermals form over the valley, providing opportunities for cross-country flights. This site requires a high skill level due to the terrain. Additionally, there is another slope 5 km away near the village of Russkaya Sloboda, which is also suitable for northwest winds and has similar flying conditions to the main slope. For more information, visit [Severinovka Flying Site](http://www.air.odessa.ua/pages/flying-sites/severinovka.html).
