This is the start place for most Cross Country flights along the coast, even dynamic flights are long and incredibly beautiful.
Official landing is at the beach, there are many small rocks that can make it hard to run, boots recommended unless you are good enough for using the 20 mts. sand stripe.
Be specially careful with high tide because the beach almost disappears. Waves can get very big also, if you don't feel comfortable use a bigger piece of land before the beach, we strongly suggest that you drive and pick a landing spot first. Before driving uphill take the road that leads to San Felipe and find one that suits you.
The take off is not so great and can be tricky, normally from what it looks like a road. There are 3 "wind socks", look for them and if they all go in opposite directions you know what to do (or what not to do). Watch out for power lines.
It's also easy to be over 400 mts above de sea, if wind is coming a bit from the west, this is a nice place for maneuvers if not, forget about it. With big waves don't even try maneuvers you don't master.

The north of the island is completely different from the south, and it is very influenced by the trade winds (as well known as vientos alisios in Spanish). The north of Tenerife is completely green due to the humidity, while the landscape in the south is completely arid.
The weather in Tenerife is the result of a combination of cold ocean currents, warmth from the nearby Tropic of Cancer, the trade winds and the Island’s orography. Although the Canary Islands are located close to the African continent, meaning Tenerife’s climate should be hot and dry, the truth is that the Island reveals a curious contrast between the north and south.
The side of the Island that is exposed to the trade winds has a more humid atmosphere, with more abundant rainfall inland and on the peaks. This is the reason why we recommend practicing paragliding in the south of the island. The wind is more stable and there are not many precipitations, then we will have more possibilities to fly. Nevertheless, let’s see some of the best paragliding sites in the north of the island.
zaña’s take-off point is located in the Teide National Park. This is a very special paragliding site in terms of views, because you will take off facing the Mount Teide. Moreover, it is a unique flight due to the difference in altitude at the start and finish. It is one of the biggest in the whole Europe.
It starts from Izaña at 2,200 metres above sea level, and it is just 2 kilometres away from Teide Observatory. It is noteworthy that paragliding is the only sport activity authorized throughout the National Park. It is extremely important to get an updated weather report before taking the paragliding flight.
The degree of difficulty is intermediate throughout the day depending on the weather, although it can switch to expert level in a couple of hours. The landings points associated to Izaña are Faro Puerto and an open esplanade by El Peñón football pitch, both located in Puerto de la Cruz, in the northbound.
-
Take off :
This is one of the only two legally permitted TO-sites in the 'Teide'-National Park!
This site is normally flown (very) early in the morning; later the cloud cover can clodr completely and/ or the east wind will not permit TO anymore.
More information on ParaglidingEarth
Landing is in the parking lot in Puerto de la Cruz. There is a bail-out LZ just after crossing the highway/ round-about (N28.39794 W16.54144/ 100m)
Weather hazards :
If the wind is coming from the EAST (landside) in Puerto de la Cruz, do NOT set up your approach over the water, ALWAYS remain over land! (you'd not be the first pilot to drown in the sea, because he could not reach land anymore...)
Going there:
1) launch direction Güimar: From Puerto de la Cruz direction Teide/observatory. Pass by road to observatory (military sector). 2 km after that you see a longer straight road section with view to Gran Canary.
2) launch direction Puerto de la Cruz: Drive on a bit more until you can see the Orotava Valley.
takeoff 1) is E-SE oriented. You launch on a road, best time after sunrise - soon the clouds arive and make it impossible. 45 min glide.
Attention, it is advisable to take binoculars and check waves on the sea - sometimes beach wind is strong N/E, then you should either not launch or choose a landing inlands.
takeoff 2) is a natural slope, W-NW oriented
landing zone for 1): Puerto de Güimar. In Puerto de Güimar direction Puerto de deportivo (sport boat harbour), parking directly at the sea. If there is strong wind at the sea you should land inlands. South of Güimar there is an open cave, that is an alternative.
landing zone for 2) on the parking lot between sea and station, next to Playa Paraiso - or in front of the light tower at the parking lot.

The slope of Guimar is a take-off point located in the central part of the municipality of Guimar, at the east side of the island. This paragliding site stands at an altitude of approximately 725 metres above sea level. There is a surface that covers 400 square metres that you can use as a take-off ramp and preparation area.
The slope of Guimar is used when the winds at that altitude come from the east. The degree of difficulty changes depending on the time of the day. If it is early or late in the day, the degree of difficulty is perfect for learners’ level. Nevertheless, at midday it is intermediate or even high level.
The landing points associated to the slope of Guimar are the esplanade of Guimar-Ladera — located in Guimar — and Playa Puertito de Guimar, a beach located in Guimar too. La Playa Puertito de Guimar is the perfect landing point for this paragliding site during the winter. But it is prohibited to use it during the summer due to there are people at the beach and it could be very dangerous.
If you want to go to the slope of Guimar on your own that is fine — but first make sure that you are safe during your flight. For this, what you must do is contact the Canary Islands’ Paragliding Federation in advance — not long time before, if not the information may change. Give them a call and they will tell you everything you need to know about last-minute changes or any possible incidents.
