The Top 20 Paragliding sites in Slovenia:
Kobala Tolmin
Kobala, near Tolmin, is one of Slovenia's most popular paragliding sites, frequented by both local and international pilots. The take-off area is grassy and wide, accommodating multiple paragliders preparing for flight simultaneously. The site is known for its excellent infrastructure, including shuttles from the landing zone, although parking is limited. Top-landing is possible but technical.
The best time to fly is from May to June and late summer to early autumn. Morning flights are best launched in an eastern direction with an eastern wind, while afternoon and evening soaring, as well as cross-country (XC) flights, are best launched westward. The launch area is a steep meadow, which can become crowded, so it's advisable to ask locals about house thermals and areas to avoid flying low.
The site record for distance is 91.0 km. The automatic weather station can be reached at +386 41 646 319 for current conditions.

Kovk Ajdovscina
Click to watch video
Located in Slovenia, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 855 meters with a height difference of 755 meters. The takeoff area faces southwest to south-southwest and is situated near a cliff, making it suitable for pilots with some experience. Top landing is possible, and dynamic soaring can be enjoyed here. This site serves as a good alternative to Lijak. The site is frequently visited by both paragliders and hang gliders, and it offers good cross-country flying opportunities. Car access is available, but be sure to follow local regulations and ask for permission if needed. The landing zone is in the direction of Ajdovščina, and you will need to follow specific directions to reach the takeoff point. For each takeoff at Kovk, you must send an SMS about your intended activity to +38631555315. This requirement was issued by the Civil Aviation Agency and is in effect until further notice. Local associations have agreed on this procedure to ensure safe flying in the area. The DJP KOVK Ajdovščina club, under the protection of the Free Flying Association Slovenia (ZPLS), manages the runway and landing areas. All performances, meetings, pilot schools, and commercial flights require prior agreement with the club. Landing on neighboring parcels with crops is strictly forbidden. Due to the proximity to Ajdovščina Airport, there are specific flying and landing rules. Flying and landing in the red zone are prohibited, and caution is required in the yellow zone due to sailplane activities. The designated landing area is near Pizzeria Anja in the village of Budanje, about 200 meters west of the pizzeria. An emergency landing area is available in the village of Lokavec. The ridge offers long soaring opportunities and is suitable for beginners and small cross-country flights. Experienced pilots can enjoy a 35 km ridge from Nova Gorica to Razdrto, interrupted by two valleys. Wind conditions can be strong, often requiring a reverse launch. For more information, visit:

An information board at the launch site provides essential details, and it's important to adhere to the posted regulations. Access to the launch site is either by car or shuttle heading towards Trnovo. Just before reaching Trnovo, there is a parking area on the right. From there, it's a 10-minute walk downhill to the launch site, which has been well-maintained by the local club. The launch area is suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders, although hang gliders might prefer the ramp located further east along the ridge. This ramp is accessible via Trnovo and a forest road. In addition to flying, Lijak offers other outdoor activities. The surrounding beech forests are perfect for mountain biking, with numerous trails to explore. For accommodation, there is the 'Kamp Lijak' campground located right next to the landing area.
