Montagne Longue
Elevation: 261 meters, Height Difference: approximately 120 meters
This site is rarely used and is primarily suitable for ridge soaring.
Region: Port Louis - Mauritius
Site Record: 3.7 km
Takeoff: Climb up the hill through the bush for about 20 minutes. You'll find the takeoff spot.
Landing: Land next to your car, beside the eucalyptus trees. There are plenty of sugar cane fields available for emergency landings.
Getting There: From the motorway (Grand Baie - Port Louis), take the Montagne Longue exit. Turn right at 'La Croisee Montagne Longue'. Before reaching the actual village of Montagne Longue, turn right onto 'Ducray Street'. Take the last right onto a sugar cane dirt track. Park your car when there are no more habitations, next to a couple of eucalyptus trees.
Comments: A classic cross-country route is to go to the top of Pieter Both and back. From Pieter Both, you can continue down the Moka Range (Pouce, Ory). With some luck and good altitude, you can then head to Corps de Garde and Montagne du Rempart, depending on the northeast or breeze regime.
Flight Regulation: Airplanes can fly anywhere in Mauritius, but the actual ceiling is 4000 feet. Planes usually don't fly between Montagne Longue and Pieter Both.
People to Contact: Not many available.
