Gringlay

Paragliding map of
Gringlay is the premier takeoff site in Luxembourg, frequently used by local paragliders. It offers excellent local soaring opportunities, although cross-country (XC) flights are somewhat limited. The site is highly regarded, but it's important to note that there are no better alternatives in the region. Region: Luxembourg Site record: 33.5 km More information: [Cumulux](http://www.cumulux.lu) Watch flights from Gringlay: - [Flight 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaohBF3SsSY) - [Flight 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9klAxBn4uzQ) - [Flight 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbftgZ3bN_c) - [Flight 4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX5ozUdHBR8) - [Flight 5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUh22Bqc1_0) Located in the Valley of Sauter near Lipperscheid-Delt, the site has many rules and limited possibilities for XC flights. For more details, visit the [Cumulux Club](http://www.cumulux.lu). Rules for Gringlay: - Each pilot must present a valid pilot license. - Have valid aerial liability insurance. - Use a wing covered by a valid control certificate. - Carry a reserve parachute. - Use a harness with a protector. - Wear an adequate helmet. - Get informed about the site's specifics and dangers from an active club member. The club reserves the right to deny access if these conditions are not met. Flight Directives: - Visit the landing zone before each flight and check weather conditions and wind direction using wind socks. - Respect priority rules: the pilot with the cliff on their right has priority. - Due to the slope size, only 5 pilots can share the airspace simultaneously if conditions limit flying near the cliff. - Maximum flight altitude is 1067 m (3500 ft AMSL). - Begin the landing phase from a height of 100m AGL. - For distance flights, respect the airspace around the site (see attached aeronautical chart). For paragliding school information, visit [ASALux](http://www.asalux.lu). Weather updates can be found at [DWD](www.dwd.de) under the gliding weather report for Saarland and Rheinland Pfalz (Frankfurt). Takeoff/Flight: The wind should come directly up from the valley. Due to the terrain, light side winds (from the West and NW) can create rotors in front of the takeoff point. Pay attention to the terrain drop during the takeoff run. Height restriction is 300 m above the takeoff point. Access: Bourscheid and Lipperscheid-Delt are located across the Sauer Valley. From Höscheid, follow the route to Ettelbrück, then take the exit to Lipperscheid, Bourscheid. Park opposite Hotel Leweck and walk 600 m to the takeoff point. Follow the paved path south to the junction with the 'Gringlay' sign, then take the forest path to the viewpoint overlooking the Sauer loop and Bourscheid Castle. A steep, strenuous climb starts just after the bridge over the Sauer, leading directly to the takeoff point in about 30 minutes. Landing Zone: U Gritt, 220 m, a meadow with a windsock. Special Notes: In stronger winds, an emergency landing field is located on the cow meadow above the Sauer loop and the campsite entrance. In strong thermodynamic winds, top landing is preferable. Approach the landing from the hillside.

Kautenbach

Paragliding map of
The Kautenbach paragliding site in Luxembourg is frequently used and offers good soaring conditions with limited cross-country potential. It is considered one of the better spots in Luxembourg. The site is managed by the Cumulux Paragliding Club A.s.b.l. Pilots must adhere to several requirements, including presenting a valid FAI pilot license (minimum IPPI 4), having valid aerial liability insurance, using a certified glider, carrying a reserve parachute, using a harness with protection, wearing a suitable helmet, and contacting the club for site-specific information before their first flight. Pilots must also maintain the site's cleanliness and follow access restrictions to protect the natural area. Flight directives include mandatory inspection of the landing zone before each flight, ensuring the wind direction is northwest before takeoff, and avoiding low-altitude flights over the camping area. The maximum flight altitude is 1067 meters (3500 feet MSL). Priority rules must be respected, and only five pilots can share the airspace simultaneously in soaring conditions. The takeoff is a cliff type with a rotor directly behind the ridge. Pilots should inflate their gliders further back towards the southeast and then move towards the ridge for takeoff. Strong winds pose a risk of being lifted off the ground abruptly. Landing is prohibited at the takeoff point but is possible further back towards the southeast if altitude permits. The designated landing area is a large meadow in the valley next to the camping site. Pilots must maintain a safe height and horizontal distance from the camping area and be cautious of turbulence when approaching the landing zone, especially in strong winds. Parking is available along the road near the takeoff area without obstructing traffic and at the entrance of the camping site without hindering circulation. Driving within the camping area is prohibited. Additional guidelines include a ban on motorized gliders and paragliding schools using the site for training. Pilots fly at their own risk, and the Cumulux Paragliding Club assumes no responsibility for accidents or damages. The site communication frequency is PMR 5 (446.05625 MHz). The path to the landing and takeoff areas passes through the village towards Consthum, with a trail on the right leading up to the ridge.
