View spotAccording to pilots from Bayamo, there are no issues flying here. The best weather conditions for this spot are winds between 15-30 km/h coming from the East-North. Located 4 km south of Guisa, El Macho can be reached either on foot or with an off-road vehicle. The mountain stretches 5 km from south to north. At its base lies a narrow valley through which the Guisa River flows, offering a spectacular view of the surrounding small and large hills. This spot is perfect for soaring with good thermal potential on the leeward side. The vast San José valley extends from there, making it ideal for cross-country flights. El Macho features two take-off points: one at 250 meters and another at 350 meters. The higher take-off is used when conditions are less favorable to immediately catch the good thermals. The landing field is located in a small baseball field in El Macho village, directly in front of the take-off area. The mountain is about 5 km from Guisa Town. While you can rent a truck, walking is the most common way to reach it. Along the way, you can enjoy views of Guisa's reservoir and the magnificent valley. Upon reaching El Macho village and crossing the river, you begin to climb the mountain. The optimal wind direction for flying is from the northeast to east. The combination of the river and valley ensures that thermals are always active on the right side of the take-off. If you are into acro-flying, this is the right place, as you have a large reservoir in front of you. Attention: This area is a military zone. Ignoring this warning can lead to arrest.
